In my youth, I learned the basics of Tui Na massage from a friend who lived in China. In my professional life – before studying Traditional Chinese Medicine – I worked in the performing arts, especially in contemporary dance. Dancers often suffer injuries, just like high-performance athletes. Treating them gave me the opportunity to practice, learn, and develop the massage technique extensively.
When I decided to change my professional life and pursue studies in the health field, I chose Traditional Chinese Medicine as a continuation of what I had already been practicing, albeit as an amateur, and which had yielded such good results.
The truth is, I really like the way Traditional Chinese Medicine approaches health. The patient is seen as a whole, seeking balance, which is the opposite of disease. Syndromes are diagnosed through sets of symptoms and signs, and the person is treated, not just the pathology itself.
Therefore, I always reserve an hour for each treatment session where, in addition to the technique used, the patient and I can talk, exchange information, identify more symptoms or signs, reinforce the diagnosis. Or, simply, use the treatment time for the patient to relax and rest.
